THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced on Thursday that it had recommended six candidates for appointment to the Gauteng High Court.These are attorneys Leicester Adams, Mpostoli Twala and Namhla Siwendu; Labour Court Judge Edwin Molahleli; and senior counsel Denise Fisher and Ingrid Opperman.That three of the six appointments are women — all of the women who applied — is likely to be praised by the legal community. But the overlooking of Gcina Malindi SC and Takalani Madima SC, is set to raise eyebrows.During interviews on Wednesday, Gauteng Judge President Dunstan Mlambo said Malindi and Madima were the first two black silks who had made themselves available for appointment in the last six years, since he had been a judge president — first of the Labour Court and later of the Gauteng division of the High Court.The JSC also recommended Judge Cagney Musi as deputy judge president of the Free State division of the High Court.
