MTN joins rivals Telkom and Cell C in zero-rating data for university students
Some universities have made study material available online as campuses are no longer accessible
MTN has joined rivals Telkom and Cell C in zero-rating data for university students. So far, the websites of only the universities of Cape Town and Pretoria will be accessed for free by students using MTN as a service provider. The company is appealing to other institutions of higher learning to tap into this initiative by providing their URL addresses. MTN SA CEO Mteto Nyati said on Thursday the company was "mindful of the backlog that students and academic institutions are facing, and we believe that this gesture will help to maintain continuity and expedite access to much-needed educational content". On Wednesday, Cell C and Telkom stepped in to assist university students with free internet to access academic materials. Telkom will provide students with free data while Cell C will offer students from universities across the country free access to university websites.
