South African Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago and his colleagues are probably banking on a good holiday, as it is the norm for top executives and business leaders to shut down or go a bit slower from early December. The calendar year is often punishing to those at the top, and December brings an opportunity to slow down and recalibrate.

I suspect our bankers, including the Bank's bosses, will have to keep their corkscrews packed away until the ANC conference is done and dusted. Or, at the very least, have one eye on that novel they were saving for the holidays and another on the news screen to see what Nasrec has in store for them. ..
