The rand was stronger against major global currencies on Wednesday afternoon as the market awaited the release of the public protector’s state capture report.The first news filtering through from the report indicates that former public protector Thuli Madonsela has ordered that President Jacob Zuma to appoint a judicial inquiry into state capture.At 4.13pm, the rand was at R13.3548 to the dollar from Tuesday’s R13.5939. It was at R14.8285 to the euro from R15.0326 and R16.4693 to the pound from R16.6435.The euro was at $1.1104 from $1.0959.The court had earlier ordered that the report be released before 5pm on Wednesday after Zuma withdrew his application for an interdict to prevent the release of the report.The report details the outcomes of investigations into complaints of improper conduct by Zuma and any other people in relation to the Gupta family.TreasuryOne analysts said the rand was boosted by news that Zuma had withdrawn his application and the court had ordered the release...
