Gauteng is pressing ahead with plans to amend by-laws to ensure township entrepreneurs play a bigger role in the provincial economy, Premier David Makhura said on Thursday. He said the talks among the province’s mayors that began last year, would continue with the new administrations, to ensure Gauteng passed new legislation collectively. "We don't want too many by-laws in different municipalities, we want one regulation, across Gauteng," said Makhura, speaking at a dialogue with township entrepreneurs hosted by the provincial government in Ivory Park. "We need to change the by-laws," he said. "Instead of the regulations and the by-laws supporting every family to have a family business, they are making it difficult for families to establish businesses. "So … we want to change all the by-laws that are making it difficult for small businesses, including informal businesses, to operate in our country," said Makhura.
