South African futures were higher on Wednesday as the market followed a firmer JSE with gold stocks faring best. The JSE all share closed 0.74% higher at 51,504.90 points and the blue-chip top 40 added 0.89%. Gold stocks rallied for the second successive session after the gold price climbed 0.74% in later trade to $1,271 an ounce. The gold index closed 3.17% higher with Sibanye jumping 5.32% to R42.97 and Harmony gaining 3.88% to R45. Industrials added 1% and resources firmed 0.61%. Platinums gained 0.58% and Banks rose 0.51%. At 5.49pm, the Dow Jones industrial average was 0.31% higher at 18,219.67 points. At the same time, the local near-dated top-40 Alsi futures index was 0.90% firmer at 45,355 points with 20,458 contracts traded from 25,754 on Tuesday.
