Western Cape High Court Judge Anton Veldhuizen finds J Arthur Brown guilty on two counts, acquits him on other charges FORMER Fidentia boss J Arthur Brown was on Thursday found guilty in the Western Cape High Court on two counts of fraud, and acquitted on seven other charges.Last week, Brown had admitted guilt on these two counts, saying he did so to “bring an end to the trial”.“We are satisfied the admissions (made by Brown) are sufficient for conviction,” Judge Anton Veldhuizen said on Thursday. “At this stage I do not find it necessary to elaborate on the exact basis for this.”Brown had originally pleaded not guilty to four counts of fraud, two counts of corruption, one count of money-laundering, and two counts of theft.He was arrested in 2007 in one of the biggest financial scandals South Africa has seen.The state alleged Brown ran a pyramid scheme and used investors’ funds for his personal gain, including the acquisition of luxury cars and beach houses.The case was dogged with ...
