The University of Cape Town (UCT) has confirmed reports of cars being set alight overnight. Four cars were set alight at about 1.40am on the lower campus, UCT said on Tuesday. "The cars were parked in Chapel Road behind Baxter residence‚" the university said in a statement. "UCT condemns this incident in the strongest terms. The matter is being investigated by the South African Police Service and UCT’s campus protection services." The vehicles were torched following the arrest of a number of student leaders on Monday. UCT Fees Must Fall leader Athabile Nonxuba was one of those arrested after clashes with police in Woodstock. He was allegedly rallying protesters to march on UCT’s upper campus to disrupt academic activity. He and three other people were arrested after police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse protesters.
