The JSE may be in for a third day of losses on Friday as Asian stock exchanges digested the mixed signals from US technology company results. Amazon’s share price crashed 5.66% while that of Google’s holding company Alphabet rose 1% in overnight trade after they released their quarterly results. Tokyo’s main indices were up about 0.6% after the dollar strengthened against the yen. A busy day for economic statistics in the US was interpreted as raising the odds of its central banking system raising interest rates in the coming months. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was down 0.4% and Sydney’s S&P/ASX 200 0.2% despite rising oil and other commodity prices. Impala Platinum is scheduled to release its September quarter production report, the first quarter of its financial year. Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium shareholders meet on Friday to hear a progress report from the business rescue practitioners.
