THE depressingly long list of senior government officials who have been ordered dismissed or have been found in the courts of having betrayed the public trust continues to grow apace, with the deputy national director of public prosecutions Nomgcobo Jiba and the head of the commercial crimes unit at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Lawrence Mrwebi now added to the list.Jiba and Mrwebi were found last week in the High Court in Pretoria to be not fit and proper persons to practise as advocates and were struck from the roll. For two top state-employed lawyers to have effectively been denied the right to appear in court means they will be unable to fulfil their functions at the NPA.Jiba has, of course, indicated that she will appeal against the decision of Judge Francis Legodi, no doubt spending more of taxpayers’ money in an attempt to overturn the ruling that she be struck off.Jiba, arguably, was a key member of the NPA team that saw more than 700 charges of fraud and corrupti...
