Accra — A spokesperson for the party of Ghanaian opposition candidate Nana Akufo-Addo is calling on the electoral commission release results quickly, saying further delays will create suspicion it is trying to overturn its win in the poll. The delay "gives suspicion that the commission is trying to overturn the clearly expressed will of the people", New Patriotic Party (NPP) spokesperson Sammy Awuku said at a news conference broadcast on radio stations. "We call on the youth of our country to remain calm, we also say the electoral commission has a responsibility to … restore sanity to the process." He said the NPP had won a "landslide victory" in concurrent parliamentary polls that had given it an additional 47 seats. Results out early on Thursday were extremely close. The electoral commission website was down but it tweeted the provisional results of six of the 275 constituencies, with incumbent John Mahama getting 62,930 votes and Akufo-Addo 62,220.
