Mamelodi Sundowns’ capture of SA’s second Caf Champions League trophy on Sunday was made more incredible by the odds they had to encounter on their way to a 3-1 aggregate win over Zamalek. They were locked out of the training facilities by Zamalek officials in Alexandria on the eve of the second leg in Egypt. They faced a kamikaze of laser beams arrowed straight into the players’ eyes to hinder their vision. They were knocked out by AS Vita in the qualifying stages but were brought back thanks to an administrative error by the Congolese club. From there they took the bull by the horns.
