DA leader Mmusi Maimane says he will approach the Independent Electoral Commission to investigate possible violations of the Electoral Act after allegations that the ANC had planned to spend R50m on a covert campaign targeting opposition parties during last year’s local government elections. Maimane said he would address the matter with the IEC when he met the Chapter 9 institutions in the coming weeks. The DA has also referred the matter to its legal team, which has been asked to consider whether the case should lead to civil and criminal action.
