The ANC was in a tailspin in two provinces this week over the membership of one Brian Molefe, who is set to be sworn in as MP. The Molefe threat hung over Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan as he delivered yet another critical budget in a tough economic climate. Molefe, who hailed from the office of the premier in Limpopo and became a "shining star" of the Mbeki administration, has been described in political circles as the "blue-eyed boy of Trevor Manuel" who had recommended him to Mbeki for the position of Public Investment Corporation CE.
