TIMES Media’s 2016 local government elections web application and its brand-new Wanted Online website were in the spotlight on Thursday night at the inaugural Digital Media Africa Awards held in Sandton. The election app won the award for best data visualisation project and Wanted Online was named best new product. The awards, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-Ifra), celebrate innovation in digital publishing and are presented in regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia. Regional winners compete for the World Digital Media Awards, to be held in Austria in October. The Times Media elections app allowed readers to follow in real time the drama of August’s local government elections.
