MEMBERS of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) have been at loggerheads near a mine in Northam‚ Limpopo, on Monday morning‚ with two reported dead.The clashes broke out after an NUM member and employee at the Northam Platinum Mine, Mthetheleli Zefunele‚ was murdered on Sunday afternoon. His killer is believed to have fled the scene on foot.Police spokeswoman Col Ronel Otto said Monday’s clashes — in which an Amcu member was reportedly stabbed to death with an assegai — were believed to be a result of Sunday’s killing.She cautioned motorists to stay clear of the area‚ saying clashes had escalated with vehicles being torched.Members of the public order policing unit have been deployed to the area.Col Otto said: "Since early (Monday) morning‚ the two opposing groups have been protesting on the Northam/Thamazimbi road.
