Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa told the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Wednesday that the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court Act Repeal Bill had been withdrawn from Parliament. The development is the latest in SA’s about-turn from an ill-fated bid to leave the International Criminal Court after failing to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for war crimes during a visit to  SA in 2015. This closes the door on the embarrassing move to exit the international court. Answering a question from NCOP member for the DA Cathlene Labuschagne, Ramaphosa said the government was instead looking at ways to comply with the High Court in Pretoria ruling which declared the government’s withdrawal from the ICC as invalid.
