The Democratic Alliance (DA) claimed victory in President Jacob Zuma’s decision to ask National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shaun Abrahams to provide reasons as to why he should not be suspended from his position. However‚ the president’s request was contained in documents that form part of Abrahams’s responding affidavit to submissions by Freedom Under Law (FUL) and the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) to Zuma asking him to suspend Abrahams. Nonetheless, the DA’s Mmusi Maimane said: "I had previously called for Abrahams to be suspended by the president in terms of section 12(6) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act‚ and wrote to the president requesting he take this very action. We welcome president Zuma’s decision to heed our advice in this regard."
