An exchange of letters released on Tuesday shows how upset Hawks chief Lit-Gen Berning Ntlemeza was with National Prosecuting Authority head Shaun Abrahams’s dropping of fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. Abrahams took umbrage at the tone of a letter from Ntlemeza. The letters surfaced in Abrahams’s response to an application by lobby groups Helen Suzman Foundation and Freedom Under Law to the High Court in Pretoria. The organisations filed an urgent application last week for the court to order President Jacob Zuma to suspend Abrahams‚ NPA priority crimes litigation unit head Torie Pretorius and North Gauteng prosecutions chief Sibongile Mzinyathi pending an inquiry into their fitness to hold office.
