The National Assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted a motion to establish an ad hoc committee to inquire into the fitness of SABC board members to hold office. Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications resolved to institute the inquiry in October, following the sudden resignation of two board members, Krish Naidoo and Vusi Mavuso. The two members left in protest at the reappointment of former chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng as group executive of corporate affairs. Now that the National Assembly has given the inquiry the green light, the ad hoc committee will be established within the coming days. The committee will consist of 11 members – six from the ANC, two from the DA, one from the EFF and two from other parties. The committee has to report back to the National Assembly by no later than 28 February 2017.
