ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu has accused SABC corporate affairs chief Hlaudi Motsoeneng of making "defamatory" remarks. Motsoeneng reportedly threatened to release information about Mthembu if he did not stop making statements about him or the state of affairs at the SABC. Mthembu dismissed Motsoeneng’s insinuations and said they were defamatory. He said he was consulting his lawyers about Motsoeneng’s remarks, and challenged Motsoeneng to release whatever information he had about him. The Supreme Court of Appeal in September refused Motsoeneng leave to appeal an earlier ruling setting aside his appointment at the broadcaster. Mthembu emerged as one of Motsoeneng’s leading critics after his appointment as chief operating officer of the SABC was found to be irregular.
