LERATO: As a precursor to the opening of the inaugural SA Festival Of Motoring at the Kyalami racetrack, Mercedes-Benz SA thought it a great idea to bring along its Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car but, more importantly, have former Formula 1 driver and current F1 television commentator David Coulthard (DC as he is known in racing circles), give the motoring media taxi rides in the mighty machine. So there I was in the pit area, all suited up in fireproof overalls, racing shoes, neck brace and helmet, ready to get strapped into the five-point harness-equipped race seat alongside the Scottish racing driver. Getting in and out of the low-slung machine required some pretzel like contortioning on my part but, once ensconced, all that mattered was the view ahead — the racing bitumen.
