There was a distinct feeling that history was being made as the bus carrying victorious Mamelodi Sundowns players snaked through Atteridgeville’s back streets, trying to find a way out of the bottled post-match traffic. Fans who had made Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium look something like an African Maracanã during Sundowns’ 3-0 Caf Champions League final first leg win over Zamalek got a second chance to display their affection to their heroes. It was by luck, really, that the bus went through Atteridgeville’s inner residential areas, looking for a way out, but what unfolded were kisses and vuvuzelas blown vociferously once more.
