South African Rugby Union (Saru) president Mark Alexander has refused to back Springbok coach Allister Coetzee in Parliament‚ saying the matter will be discussed within the Saru structures in December when they meet to discuss the team’s 2016 performance. The Springboks have had a dismal season and Alexander admitted to the portfolio committee on sport and recreation that "not blooding new players has caught up with us" and that "we need to turn this boat around". Saru would hold a "conditioning conference" in December to create a "blueprint" that would outline the standard conditioning required for players in the various teams. The season review‚ set for December 13‚ would include reviews of the coaches and of the policy for fielding overseas-based players‚ many of whom arrived just days before games.
