THE seriousness of concussion-related injuries was thrust into the spotlight on Wednesday, when former Springbok lock Alistair Hargreaves retired due to complications from concussion.The 30-year-old Saracens player‚ who represented the Springboks four times between 2010 and 2011‚ heeded the advice of doctors who suggested he walk away from the game.Recently, Sharks and Bok flyhalf Pat Lambie spent three months on the sidelines recovering from concussion. Only last weekend, Bok scrumhalf Rudy Paige suffered a huge blow to the head playing against Australia and he has been withdrawn from the squad.Hargreaves made 79 appearances for Saracens since arriving at the club from Super Rugby franchise Sharks in 2012.
