Top KwaZulu-Natal jockey Anthony Delpech makes the trip to the Vaal on Tuesday for five rides and he should not return home empty-handed. Trainer Corné Spies has booked Delpech for the ride on Laurent Du Var in the first race and the two-year-old has obvious claims after a pleasing debut at Turffontein in December. However, there are several rivals for the short-list of possible winners and they include Mike de Kock’s Aussie-bred newcomer Alfolk and trainer Gavin van Zyl’s Var colt Flying Free. The Puma, the mount of Gunter Wrogemann, also caught the eye on his first start and trainer Robbie Sage will be looking for his Mogok colt to build on that effort.
