ANC branches that were unable to convene general meetings to nominate their preferred candidates for the party’s coming elective conference have been given more time to do so. The branch nomination process officially closed last Wednesday, but structures were allowed to conclude meetings that had been set up to take place last weekend. The ANC has now given branches a grace period until this Saturday to conclude their meetings and nominations.

On Monday, Business Day reported that almost 100 appeals had been lodged in the party’s biggest and most influential province of KwaZulu-Natal. The resolution committee had gone to the province to deal with the matter. Despite the deadlines, Kodwa said the ANC did not want to use it as a way to exclude any branch from participating in the December conference.
