Tshwane mayor Msimanga granted freedom of the city of Taipei amid ANC anger
29 December 2016 - 09:51
In a move likely to intensify ANC annoyance over Tshwane’s DA mayor Solly Msimanga’s trip to Taiwan, Taipei has given him the freedom of the city. Msimanga’s trip to Taiwan has been criticised by the Department of International Relations and Co-operation‚ which said it was against SA’s one-China policy. The ANC’s Tshwane caucus called it "treason". DA shadow deputy minister of trade and industry Dean Macpherson tweeted a photo of the mayor on Thursday morning, saying: "Congratulations Executive Mayor @SollyMsimanga on being bestowed with the Freedom of the City by Taipei Mayor Dr. Ko!"
