Johannesburg has postponed its special council meeting after none of the ANC councillors showed up and the council failed to reach a quorum. Councillors were meant to vote on whether the municipality’s entities, which include City Power, waste service Pikitup and Joburg Parks and Zoo, should be absorbed into the city. At the moment they function as separate companies owned by the city. The council was also meant to vote on an amendment to Johannesburg’s supply chain management policy to pave the way for the city’s open tender system, among other things. The meeting was initially set for Friday but had to be postponed after councillors clashed over certain items on the agenda. A special meeting was then called for Monday but members of the ANC and its coalition partners, the African Independent Congress and the People’s Alliance, sent apologies for their absence ahead of the meeting.
