FORMER president Thabo Mbeki has spoken out against leaders who are "thieves" and those who are violating the Constitution.Mbeki on Monday lamented what he called the lack of "progressive leadership" in Africa.The Thabo Mbeki Foundation held a question-and-answer session with Thabo Mbeki Leadership Institute students.Mbeki said the Constitution was a product of the struggle and negotiations, and he had not expected those who formed part of these processes to violate it. The former president’s comments come after President Jacob Zuma’s administration lost several court cases, the most notably at the Constitutional Court, which ordered Zuma to pay R7,8m for nonsecurity upgrades at his home.Last week, the Supreme Court of Appeal found State Security Minister David Mahlobo had violated the Constitution by jamming a signal in Parliament during the State of the Nation address.Mbeki said he had not expected those involved in the struggle to violate the Constitution.
