The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant payments debacle is yet another demonstration of ANC executive incompetence. The party’s leadership frequently states that its decisions are made as a collective and that no one can be held responsible (unless of course it is, Number One, who has no responsibilities other than lining his and his supporters’ pockets). Clearly, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini is not responsible for ensuring that either a timeous process was followed, starting two years ago, to find a service provider in terms of established procurement tender procedures, or that Sassa itself develop the necessary capacity to fulfil its mandate. No doubt Net1 will ensure it earns an excellent income from its position of strength in negotiations with Sassa, at the expense of the taxpayer, as usual. Robert StoneLinden
