Manifest racism is a composite of two broad elements — racist thoughts followed by racist actions (expressions of those thoughts). Thinking racist thoughts is one matter, but people who in the prevailing climate still insist on expressing racist views on social media, such as Facebook, despite the keen focus on this form of racism, is another. They should not be charged with racism, but with stupidity. The latest example is someone’s Facebook comments on Siya Kolisi’s marriage. He and his new wife should be commended for their reactions. A person who acts this way in this day and age is obviously as dumb as a bag of hammers. For them to type racist comments into a social media platform, while in full control of their faculties, is not deserving of our contempt but rather of our pity. They are their own worst enemies. It is not we that need protection from them, it is they who need protection from themselves. These people are just not with us. They need help. James DrewVia e-mail
