Mark Keohane was, as usual, unerring in his column regarding the Boks’ dismal performances in 2016 (The Final Whistle, November 21). The criticism he levels against coach Allister Coetzee is quintessential in that "Coetzee simply isn’t good enough". Those who recommended him as coach should concede that his appointment was a blunder. More disturbing is Coetzee’s post-match statement that he still believed he was "the right man for the job". He continues to believe that he has the support and backing of the players and of those that appointed him. As if that were plausible. This is as ludicrous as Jacob Zuma, when called to resign, saying that he has the support of most of his cadres in the ANC. That said, it seems that unloading Coetzee will be as difficult as jettisoning Zuma. It will be interesting to see whether the South African Rugby Union (Saru) respects the rugby public in SA, or whether their behaviour mirrors the ANC and government’s nonchalant disregard for its supporters....
