WATCHING on TV as a parliamentary committee interrogated the SABC board gave me some hope that things could change in SA; the board was actually being held to account for its actions. I was very impressed with the committee, which is made up of members from all the political parties. Is there light on the horizon?On August 16, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi announced there was "no crisis" at the SABC. President Jacob Zuma surely has no choice but to remove her from her post — she clearly has no idea what is going on around her and is making irrational decisions.The one aspect that disappointed and surprised me was the lack of any knowledge by the committee of how to go about dissolving the SABC board and removing incompetent executives. Surely, they must have realised this was a possibility and could have obtained proper advice, instead of bumbling from one member to another with various "opinions"?If the remaining four board members had any sense of pride and accountability...
