A number of JSE-listed retailers have given trading updates in the past few weeks and Shoprite stands out among them in terms of sustained good performance. The rest are full of qualifications.
Shoprite has had to contend largely with the same extraneous factors as all other local retailers (load-shedding, port congestion and high interest rates to name but a few), but the group doesn’t dwell on these problems and make excuses for bad performance; it just grits its teeth and gets on with the job...
