Garland, Koenderman and Randy in the same sentence? Surely not. "Shelley Garland" is a disgraced — or heroic — fake blogger in drag. Tony Koenderman was a legendary journalist whose death was honoured at a memorial on Friday. The "Incredible Randy" is a magician who exposes fake media content derived from fake science. What the media firestorm unleashed by Garland exposes is that in SA a white man might have less freedom of expression in practice than women and people of colour. Garland, actually Marius Roodt, succeeded spectacularly in his quest to expose the propensity to publish politically correct sexist and racist rubbish. But instead of proclaiming victory when exposed, he capitulated. When his nemesis, Huffington Post’s South African editor, Verashni Pillay, was exposed for unknowingly regurgitating a white man’s deliberate nonsense, she too capitulated. Had male Roodt been female Garland, Pillay might still be basking in the glory of publishing and defending anti-white-male ...
