Moegsien "Mugupta" Williams believes the print media should punt an ANC line because most voters, by definition, voted for the governing party. That’s an odd approach to media freedom, but even if it were valid, which ANC should be favoured? As far as the Insider can make out, the print media have by and large been supporting the Pravin Gordhan faction, which is growing by the day as members of the Jacob Zuma faction jump ship. Both are claimed by the ANC, at least for now. Mugupta’s problem is that he has an uncanny knack for choosing the wrong faction. When he and Nazeem Howa, who resigned from the Gupta-owned Oakbay Investments yesterday, lorded it over Independent Newspapers they took instruction from Thabo Mbeki and his Indian friends, the Pahads. When the ANC split, they poured all their energy and resources into the Congress of the People. Look how that turned out.
