The Department of Health has set aside R6m for the transfer of psychiatric patients from unlicensed NGOs to suitable facilities, as directed by the health ombudsman, Gauteng MEC for health Gwen Ramokgopa said on Wednesday. Ramokgopa also said that Tiego Selebano, Makgabo Manamela and another official had been suspended, while four deputy directors were to face disciplinary hearings and the chief director was placed on a precautionary transfer to Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The officials were implicated for spearheading the transfer of more than 1,000 patients to unfit and unregistered NGOs in a cost-cutting exercise.
