On Tuesday, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini refused to answer questions on South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) CEO, Thokozani Magwaza’s departure. The department announced the termination of his contract on Monday. On being questioned about Magwaza’s departure, Dlamini accused journalists of harassing her. The minister was set to address young people at the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto, as part of Nelson Mandela Day celebrations. Dlamini finally said to persistent journalists, who moved with her towards the venue while continuing to question her about Magwaza: "No, no. Don’t follow me. Don’t follow us. No more. This ends here." Magwaza is due to testify against Dlamini in a public inquiry about her role in the Sassa social grants payments debacle.
