It is official: Durban has lost the rights to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games. South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) president Gideon Sam confirmed this on Monday afternoon. Speaking to TMG Digital from London‚ he said via text message: "The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is looking for an alternative to Durban." Sam was in the UK city for a meeting of the CGF, where Durban’s status as host was discussed. CGF president Louise Martin led the discussion‚ according to a well-placed source. TMG Digital/The Times
