President Jacob Zuma is considering appointing justice Raymond Zondo as the deputy chief justice, the Presidency said on Friday. In accordance with the Constitution, Zuma had written to political party leaders represented in the National Assembly about his intention, spokesman Bongani Ngqulunga said. The position of deputy chief justice became vacant when Dikgang Moseneke retired last year. Ngqulunga said Zuma had also consulted chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and the chair of the Judicial Service Commission on the appointment. Zondo has been a Judge of the Constitutional Court since 2012 and has previously served as judge-president of the Labour Appeal Court.
