The Western Cape government wants to offer new tourist attractions away from the Mother City as popular spots reach "absolute capacity". This comes after the province notched up record numbers of tourists over the festive season — the rise in foreign tourists was 29.8% year on year. But when he announced this good news, economic opportunities MEC Alan Winde said the province had to think cleverly and invest in new attractions. "Our attractions are reaching absolute capacity‚" he said. Winde said new hotels‚ other accommodation and restaurants were sprouting in the city, but this was leading to congestion on the roads. "At 8 o’clock in the morning … you are hitting a traffic jam because Table Mountain is already queued up‚’’ said Winde. Visitors could go elsewhere because queues were too long at top attractions.
