Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s first 100 days in office has drawn a mixed reaction from stakeholders. Thuli Madonsela’s successor met most of the criteria to head SA’s most trusted office‚ and enjoyed significant support across political parties when she took office. Mkhwebane was strongly backed by the ANC. MPs noted she was a woman with seven years’ experience as an investigator in the Office of the Public Protector. She was among five candidates shortlisted from 14 for the post. She was selected over Judge Siraj Desai‚ Prof Bongani Majola‚ Muvhango Lukhaimane and Sharise Weiner.
