Friday was the day for applicants or nominees to be considered for the board at the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). The second step is for an ad hoc committee of Parliament to shortlist the top candidates. This is due to take place on Monday when the committee, set up purely for this process, convenes. The NYDA, whose mission is to address youth development issues, was established by an act of Parliament in 2008. It had a rocky start, amid allegations of financial mismanagement, but has since started to stabilise, even achieving clean audit outcomes. The ANC Youth League recently called on the ad hoc committee to ease up on what it considered strict standards for candidates to be accepted on the board, including omitting the requirement for a matric certificate.
