The Department of Communications says it is satisfied with the work it has done over the past year, despite facing harsh criticism over the crisis at some of its entities, particularly the SABC. Communications Minister Faith Muthambi’s tenure has been dogged by controversy and she has been blamed for the problems at the public broadcaster. The SABC received a qualified audit opinion in the 2015-16 financial year and posted a loss of R411m. Muthambi’s spokesman, Ayanda Hollow, said this week that of the 38 national departments, only eight departments had received clean audit opinions in the 2015-16 financial year.
