Provincial governments need to play a greater role in marketing their unique attractions as the national government will not be able to promote all of SA’s tourist destinations at home and to international travellers. This is according to Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom in reply to questions at the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Parliament on Thursday. He said the tourism department was looking at ways to increase professionalism in tourism industry in areas beyond SA’s usual tourist attractions. This follows a difficult period in SA’s tourism industry on the back of tightened visa laws.
