CONSTRUCTION of new freeway in Gauteng linking Springs and OR Tambo International Airport is expected to get under way by 2019, as part of plans to ease congestion, Gauteng MEC for roads and transport Ismail Vadi said on Monday.This would be the first highway built in the province since 1982.Gauteng’s motorists were facing increasing travel times, especially in urban areas, Vadi said at the launch of Gauteng October Transport Month.The 35km-long highway would link the OR Tambo aerotropolis and the Tambo-Springs freight and logistics hub, and would reduce pressure on the N1 and N3 highways, including the Gillooly’s interchange, Vadi said."Before 2019 we should start.
