ROBERT McBride will find out in the coming weeks whether he will return to his job as Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head and continue his investigations into police officers corrupted by criminal syndicates, or face a disciplinary hearing.He was forced to step aside last year amid allegations that he had covered the tracks of Hawks officials caught up in the unlawful rendition of four Zimbabweans in 2010.Although the Constitutional Court ruled early in September that McBride’s suspension be set aside, it was for procedural reasons only. The court found that Police Minister Nathi Nhleko — who McBride calls "a serial violator of the Constitution" — did not have the power to suspend him.The ruling has "thrown the police ministry into disarray", says its chief of staff, Leon Mbangwa.
