SARS commissioner Tom Moyane has accused the Financial Intelligence Centre of failing to co-operate regarding its report on suspicious transactions on the tax authority’s second-in-charge, Jonas Makwakwa.SARS on Friday announced appointments to replace Makwakwa, who has been suspended over suspicious payments into his bank account.Moyane sat on the FIC report on Makwakwa since May, and his spokesman, Sandile Mamela, said on Friday that the centre had not been co-operating.The FIC is a banking regulator and provided the report to SARS recommending investigations into whether R1.2m in "suspicious and unusual" deposits into Makwakwa’s account were proceeds of crime, corruption or money laundering.SARS said in a statement that Moyane had raised the issue of the FIC’s lack of co-operation at Monday’s briefing with Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan."The FIC reports directly to the minister of finance.
