South African futures were firmer on Friday as the all share closed higher for the third day running with property stocks playing catch-up. The all share closed 0.71% higher at 50,899.90 points and the blue-chip top 40 added 0.75%. The South African listed property index jumped 2.36%, financials gained 1.41% and banks were up 1.36%. Industrials rose 1.14% and food and drug retailers gained 1.12%. The gold index shed 2.92% and resources dropped 1.02%. The all share ended the week 3.34% higher and is up 0.41% for the year. The Dow Jones was flat (+0.09%) in early evening trade, but the S&P500 had risen 0.36%. European markets were also firmer with the FTSE 100 up 0.22%, the Paris CAC 40 0.62% and Germany’s Dax 0.21%. At 5.41pm, the local near-dated top-40 Alsi futures index had added 0.85% to 44,300 points, with 59,895 contracts traded from 45,965 on Thursday.
